NDIS full-scheme roll-out

Full-scheme roll-out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme in WA commences from 1 July 2017.

The roll-out will take three years as outlined below. This information is also represented in a map, which is available below.

1 July 2017: The Kimberley-Pilbara, the remaining South Metro region and the Perth Hills.

1 July 2018: Goldfields Esperance, North Metro and the remaining Wheatbelt, South West and Central South Metro.

1 July 2019: Midwest Gascoyne, Great Southern, Central North Metro and South East Metro.

Underpinning this roll-out is a State and Commonwealth-government signed bilateral agreement which provides the details of how the NDIS come to WA under a nationally consistent, locally administered model. The full bilateral agreement is available below.

Key features of the locally administered NDIS are:

  • Nationally consistent eligibility.
  • Core principles including access to reasonable and necessary supports, choice and control and a guarantee of full portability now and into the future.
  • That the NDIS in WA will be part of a national quality and safeguarding framework, and will include the same appeals avenues as in all other States and Territories.
  • A joint State-Commonwealth governance arrangement which will ensure the NDIS in WA continues to be built in partnership with the WA disability community but still benefit from the innovation and strategic oversight in the rest of the nation.

The operational details of WA’s locally-administered model will be co-developed with West Australians to shape the NDIS to meet WA’s needs.

The NDIS will be delivered by a WA State Government entity, designed specifically for this purpose. It will report to a State-Commonwealth Joint Governance Board and the State Minister for Disability Services.
